These screws made the horrible job so easy! I bought a new house and unfortunately only discovered after we moved in that there were a lot of squeaky floorboards hiding under my carpet on the second floor. I began my search and soon discovered that this was the result of the plank separating from the joist. This is usually due to the contractor using nails instead of screws to attach planks to joists. Ok, so how can I fix it? I thought I need a carpenter what's on my mind = $$$$. After watching a few videos on You Tube I realized that they no longer make Squeeeeek screws that can be used through the carpet to solve this problem. but at this point I realized I might as well pull up the carpet and replace it (which had to be done anyway) and attach the floor with these screws instead. I bought a few packs, a drill bit and got to work. I quickly realized that if I wanted to do it, I had better do it right. I bought more screws and decided to do my entire 2nd floor. These screws made my job so EASY. They are self tapping which means I don't have to pre-drill the holes. I decided to make my job easier and attached it to the floorboard. It wasn't necessary, but I quickly found that I could drill through them much faster if I used a few hammer blows to get each screw in place. I put a screw every 6-8 inches (about an inch 99% of the time from where the builders had driven the nail in) and driven it into the plank where it meets the joist, and then I'm went back and drilled the screws in. They went in like a hot butter knife I had my own assembly line :) and that made the process so easy. I am happy to report that my floors are 100% squeak free and my new beautiful Berber rug looks amazing! Note: At some point during this project I ran out of screws and even with Prime delivery I couldn't get it done before my carpet was due so I had to go to my local Lowes store and buy Grip Rite screws. and while they did the work - it was definitely more work. They definitely had to be cut a little harder into the board and didn't drill as smoothly either. However, they cost MUCH less than these. I really like these screws but wish they were a bit more accessible. I don't understand why #8 2" bolts cost MUCH more than other sizes, double in some cases! Such a shame. For that reason alone I won't be able to buy again unless it's a smaller project.
