Exceeded expectations

I bought these so we can get more NPR stations. I decided to do a test first and if it helps I'll buy a good one and put it inside. I hope I can avoid installing on the roof and running the cable inside. Well I pocketed it and what a surprise. It was everything I needed. We live in the mountains in Z.MD. We don't live on a mountain but our elevation is 700 feet. Above the sea level. The research I did showed that we can hear FM stations up to 50 miles away. VHF signals cannot be received favorably from a distance. Antenna I faces due south and gives excellent reception from a station to the west, higher up, and to the south. We're also getting a station to the east, but with some glitches. This didn't happen during testing and I guess I'm getting it now because I had to connect it to other cables from the stereo to install it. We're not worried about interference since both the South and East stations are from West Virginia and have nearly identical programming. My wife is very happy and of course I enjoy being a hero. A few notes. I've added a photo showing the setup. Not a great photo, but you can see the base of the antenna and the top of the antenna as three small black dots attached to the tree. It's not invisible, but it's certainly not distracting. Second, unless you call the install a build, there is no build. Finally, it's 75 ohms, but 1/8 inch wide. So handle it with care.

Pros
  • Radio antennas
Cons
  • Requires outlet
