We bought this after going to a friend's birthday party. They mentioned that we do, and I wasn't thrilled about it. I mean why the hell would I go to your house and cook my own food? I just want to sit and eat. Well I was very glad I tried it. Dinner was much more social, people were "more involved" in what was going on. I decided to buy this myself to get our 6, 8 and 10 year olds more involved with cooking, cooking and eating. I was right. They enjoyed this aspect and even cooked and ate their own vegetables (your results will of course differ from those of your own children). Now they want to continue. It also helps me to get more involved with cooking. With my temperature gun, the max was about 400F. It was also fairly consistent across the metal plate, which surprised me. Since it is a "non-stick coating", it is very easy to clean. I didn't put it in the dishwasher. I put the dish racks in the dishwasher and they came out fine. However, next time I'll spray Pam or something on the metal plate before cooking to make it even easier to clean. The raclette comes with plastic spatulas (not pictured) to make scraping food off non-stick pan holders easier. I bought the wooden one because I didn't know the plastic came with it. But I suspect that these plastic parts will eventually melt. Finally, the power cord is too short. Therefore you need to add an expander. All in all we're thinking about getting another one in exactly the same size so we have 2 for dinner parties.
