Review on 🚚 CURT 18145 48 x 20-Inch Basket Hitch Cargo Carrier: Ultimate 500 lbs Capacity Black Steel Solution (+1-1/4" & 2-In Adapter Shank) by Chris Russell

Some assembly is required and instructions need editing.

I already knew from looking at pictures on the internet that this is not an ideal carrier. But this is the only one I've found with a quick search that works with a 1-1/4" receiver. Interestingly, it has a 2" receiver adapter - essentially a large piece of plastic that magically snaps its Shape changes. Load capacity from 300 pounds to 500 pounds. The wife will be using this to transport her father's wheelchair when she takes him to the doctor, so weight is not an issue here. Assembly required. Doesn't matter. It would have been better if three of the four spring washers and which one sprocket washer wouldn't have been lost - for the first time in decades I bought something that needed to be assembled and ran out of parts. Luckily I found a good selection of used equipment and the spring washers to match. Ridiculous downright is the guide when it comes to the "list" of the tools offered. You need a ratchet with a 10, 14 and 17 mm socket and ring spanners of the same size. If When you get to step 2, the order is wrong. To put this together, place the connecting brackets on what is called the shaft (square center shaft), THEN slide the platform halves over it and screw everything together. Obviously, whoever wrote the instructions never attempted to put any of it together. The finished bracket is easy to attach. Put it on, then reach through the cradle to the receiver to insert the stylus. The woman picked it up and said it wasn't too heavy. Tomorrow we will cut a piece of thin plywood to lay on the floor to keep the wheelchair from falling through. Stars if the instructions were better or if they did something - anything - to make the bottom of this shelf wheelchair accessible. It's reasonably priced, though, and if you're struggling with a 1-1/4-inch receiver, this is pretty much the only game in town.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • boring packaging
