Not only for mobile phones! I was looking for an alternative way to mount my Yaesu VX-8DR HT on or near the dash so it would be within reach and easily visible while driving. I didn't want to attach anything to the radio with screws or use velcro (sticky!). After researching various options, some of which cost 3-4 times as much, I decided to look into magnetic mounts. As you can see from the photos, the thin round metal bracket is seamless and unobtrusive when I need to lift the radio. But I was worried these magnetic mounts wouldn't be strong enough. Well the package arrived today and with it an email from the seller warning me the MAXIMUM UNIT WEIGHT is 8 OZ. I was sure it wouldn't work because the VX-8 weighs almost 12 ounces.
