Review on 🎧 PROZOR 192kHz DAC with 5.0 Bluetooth Receiver, Optical Coaxial Bluetooth Digital Audio to Analog Converter via RCA & 3.5mm Stero Output by Eric Ramen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good but could be better

This review will be updated below. I bought this DAC without expecting too much. I just wanted a "something cheap, good for now" solution. Basically, I wanted something that would allow me to play songs on my phone (non-aptX/non-aptX HD) through my preamp without having to connect it to an audio cable. He does, but he could do better. An RCA line-out connection does NOT provide a true line-level signal. Indeed far from it. If the RCA outputs were above the volume control and provided a TRUE line level output I would give this 4 stars. Even with the unit's volume control turned all the way down, I still have to turn my preamp's volume control up a bit. After hooking up a CD player via the coaxial input, I didn't expect it to sound better than my CD. the player has a built-in DAC (Denon DCM-460), but it is not. However, it would be a pleasant surprise if this were the case. Part of the problem could be that the volume control is sucking up the sound? Admittedly, I used cheap coax cable, but it should still have come close to what I had in mind, but it doesn't. All in all it does what it's supposed to, does it cheaply and does it well. Design the RCA outputs to be pre-volume control and give the RCA true line level and it will be a 4 star rating. UPDATE 5/3/19: The seller contacted me and offered to send an upgraded replacement. . After receiving it, I noticed an improvement in volume when I connected it to my preamp via the RCA jacks. On a previous version I bought, I had to turn the volume knob on the digital volume meter to near or 0dB. The newer version plays between -20 dB and -15 dB. CDs played through a preamp typically play at -20dB to -25dB so this new version is much closer to line level output over RCA jacks. Also worth noting is that I replaced the cable coming from the Proster Bluetooth Receiver DAC with a slightly better one. cable, and this helped improve the sound coming out of it. In the near future I plan to replace this cable with an even better cable. However, I did mention to the manufacturer that in a future DAC update of the BT receiver they will put the RCA jacks ahead of the volume control to provide a real line. level and improve the sound output via the RCA sockets. Comparing this DAC to a CD player's built-in DAC is a little unfair, as the cable from the S/PDIF out to the CD player isn't very good, and the cables from the Proster DAC (preferably generic) to the preamp aren't nearly as good like the ones going from the CD player to the preamp (solid silver core). When I update the cables for the Proster DAC I will post the update. But right now, playing CDs through the Proster DAC is not as good as playing through the CD DAC. Because Proster is focused on improving their product, I'm increasing my rating from 3 stars to 4. It's great to see that the manufacturers are willing to address their customers' concerns and improve the product. The new version that was sent to me is greatly improved.
