I have replaced my Dell XPS 17 with a much newer and lighter laptop. The new laptop doesn't have a CD drive, but my old Dell had one (BD burner and all). I decided to try converting the old ODD to an external one and it fit the bill. Installation was easy and apparently well done (tight tolerances). The only issue I had was that the old Dell had a specially curved bezel that didn't match the straight face of this external kit. I checked the packaging to see if StarTech included a standard bezel (some manufacturers do) but it didn't. I can currently use it without the bezel, it's just hard to push the button because it's tiny and recessed.
