Plug and Play with HP Blu-ray Nice Build

Excellent, simple design. It takes very little effort to expand the chassis, but the instructions are clear. Once installed, it's beautiful and reliable. My Blu-ray from an old HP laptop works perfectly with it. Plug and play with Windows 10 laptop, fast USB 3.0 speed. Great for the price. Personally, I'd pay a few bucks extra for the front panel and USB-C, but that's not really a complaint. It does what I wanted with no complaints at a great price.

Pros
  • Improves Mobility.
Cons
  • No machine

The case is solid and works great.

I took a Blu-ray player from a broken Asus laptop and bought this case for it. The bezel (the plastic part with the buttons) on the player hangs under the player. Because of this, I couldn't snap the front bezel into place when the drive was in the case. This is not Startech's fault. I mean they can't design all drives. I'm only mentioning it so others may consider buying it. After a little editing of the front bezel, it snapped into place and everything is fine. The case is solid and works…

Pros
  • MAXIMUM PORTABILITY. With a durable aluminum body, this premium outdoor case is compact and portable. Also, the case is USB powered
Cons
  • Minor issues

Easily converts a repurposed optical drive into an external drive

I have replaced my Dell XPS 17 with a much newer and lighter laptop. The new laptop doesn't have a CD drive, but my old Dell had one (BD burner and all). I decided to try converting the old ODD to an external one and it fit the bill. Installation was easy and apparently well done (tight tolerances). The only issue I had was that the old Dell had a specially curved bezel that didn't match the straight face of this external kit. I checked the packaging to see if StarTech included a standard bezel

Pros
  • Protect your optical drive with a durable aluminum case
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

Not bad at all - just a few small threads

I spent an extra $4 to get a USB3.0 version for future compatibility. As for the hidden clip part of Andrey's review, it's definitely there - see the details in the pictures. Part of the problem is that it's very difficult to solve as the only way you have is through the bezel itself and the only way you can really pry it open is "wrong". I carefully used a (very) small flat head screwdriver to pry it loose and the rest of the assembly was easy. The case itself is solid on the outside, plastic…

Pros
  • WIDE COMPATIBILITY: The optical drive enclosure is OS independent, making it compatible with any OS. It's also backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 for older devices.
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Check your drive's power requirements, buy a dual-Y power cable if you need to burn it. I bought it to use with a slim 12.7mm BD-RW, LG BT30N. LG BT30N draws 1.5A (7.5W) like most thin models. The cable that this case comes with is a single Micro-B to USB 3.0 A connector and can only request up to 900mA. Although it worked fine as a ROM, every time I tried to burn a disc, the drive would disconnect and the burn would fail. To fix this I bought a plain USB 3.0 Dual Power Y to Micro…

Pros
  • Save time accessing files with USB 3.0 performance
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

The missing bezel ruins this otherwise great product.

The build quality is pleasant. It's aluminum with a solid plastic back, but the case doesn't have a front. I included the screws but couldn't figure out what they were for as there were no other mounting points in the case other than the screw holes on the front. The funny thing is that the drive isn't really held to the tray by anything other than the SATA connection and friction. Theoretically, if you hold it connector-side down, the drive bay could slide, expand, or shake itself out. No…

Pros
  • ADDED FEATURE: This rugged optical drive enclosure adds an external USB 3.0 optical drive (ODD), adding optical read and write support to your computer.
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Good external drive case USB 3.0 cable not working

I wish the company had a bezel like the Mcsher ones I bought included or at least stated in the description that a bezel might be needed. I still can't get the included USB cable to work, and now I'm definitely using my USB 3.0 WD Passport cable. This is a decent case for your Blu-Ray player once you get past the installation hurdles, which are mostly trial and error. My Blu-ray player is from a Lenovo y580, so it had a curved bezel. After fooling around and leaving the clip on the optical…

Pros
  • Enjoy the plug and play installation with no software or driver CD
Cons
  • I'll write later

Excellent external enclosure for iMac optical drive

I recently bought a 480GB SanDisk SSD for my 2009 iMac when the drive was on sale at Revain. I installed it with an optical drive bay adapter, which gave me both the original HDD and my new SSD. This left me with the original (and still perfectly working) optical drive, but no way to use it. I looked up Revain and found this very inexpensive 12.7mm external optical drive enclosure, just what I pulled out of my iMac. There were almost twice as many discs of this type on other sites. It arrived…

Pros
  • Maximum portability with this USB powered device
Cons
  • Interchangeable
