Colors darken and don't blend well unless you dip the tip of the brush in water to to achieve a real watercolor look, but this set is still amazing and well worth it! I use both with and without water. Link's drawing was made without the use of water, which can only be seen in the dark and light horizontal lines on his shirt, as the same color was applied ONCE and not multiple times.
