Review on Bayite Digital Temperature Controller for Fahrenheit Testing, Measurement & Inspection by Keegan Herbert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as it should.

I am currently using this product in a simple application to turn on garage fans when the temperature reaches 87 degrees Fahrenheit. They're going on and off almost non-stop for three days, so it's going to be a pretty good stress test. I was thinking of connecting it to the heater at the same time, but I couldn't figure out how to do that with this device that only has a relay connection. The instructions seemed to indicate that it could be used for that, but I think it can only ever be used for one thing or the other. I set up a standard two-outlet, three-prong outlet to connect two fans and a two-prong, two-prong plug to plug the unit into the wall. The two fans didn't show a rated current, so I hope their current isn't over 10A. I have yet to test it with an ammeter. What bothers me is that the screw terminals are made of aluminum and the device has no ground connection. I don't believe this unit has overcurrent protection on the main AC line. The relay terminals obviously have no protection, so I'm guessing the 10A rating is about as much current the aluminum connectors can draw before frying their connection to the PCB and relay terminals. Temperature resistance seems pretty accurate at plus or minus degrees outside. Programming this device is not that difficult, but it does require some understanding of the concepts. Like most tech devices, it's not immediately intuitive. That is, it is programmed the same way the first digital watch was programmed, with labels and menu functions relevant only to designers, not consumers. This means keeping the manual available because after six months any change to a program will require reading the manual again. There are fiddly adjustable plastic connectors on each side of the device, but there are no instructions on how to connect them to a frame. From an operational point of view, the display shows temperatures in tenths of a degree and works as it should. The digital display is easy to read and shows the temperature in the garage at a glance. I see how this device can be useful for other temperature sensitive applications.

Pros
  • Security Protection --- High and low temperature alarms are available when the temperature exceeds the desired temperature. Compressor Delay Time Setting and Temperature Calibration
Cons
  • Very Expensive
