Update: I went into the garage this morning and found ice on the floor. A quick check with a conventional thermometer showed that the air temperature in the garage was near freezing, although the thermostat looked like it should have been operating at around 45 degrees. When the thermostat output wires shorted, the gas oven started, indicating a malfunction of the internal thermostat. I am currently using this product in a simple application to turn on garage fans when the temperature reaches 87 degrees Fahrenheit. They're going on and off almost non-stop for three days, so it's going to be a pretty good stress test. I was thinking of connecting it to the heater at the same time, but I couldn't figure out how to do that with this device that only has a relay connection.
