Apparently this is mainly used by miners to separate PCIe slots and it gets the job done perfectly. I run my risers on my old 2nd gen computer (Core Duo 2) which only had one PCIe slot and I can run 3 GPUs on it (the BIOS is limiting in this case as it doesn't allow higher 4G decoding ). But I will buy more to be able to run 8 or more GPUs in two slots with cheap megabytes. I'm not entirely sure, but it seems to me that this is more stable for mining than using each PCIe slot, since you can have 4 GPUs using only 1 PCIe lane, not (at least) 4, so you worry less about disabling HD audio/SATA ports/etc to have enough free PCIe lanes as mining doesn't require very much PCIe bandwidth compared to gaming. I can't see myself using this map other than mining, but for mining it's great.
