So I bought these to attach the metal plate to the door and restore the finish to close the storm door. The holes in the metal plate were big enough for screws. I drilled pilot holes about an inch into the pine frame and into the 2x4. The heads were easy to remove from the 3 inch screws. Make sure you drill a deeper pilot hole and add some soap or wax. I usually do this when going into hardwoods, but pine shouldn't be a problem. Soft stainless steel? Good thing there were 25 pieces in the package.
