HICOUP Hiccups = Short Life

I have had this HICOUP winged bottle opener for several years and have used it to open about 80 bottles of wine. A number of problems arose during his short life. First both handles fell off after about 3 months of use. I reattached them with epoxy. Second, the plastic neck alignment donut broke and fell into disrepair; I declined. At that time I found that the opener still worked. I used it until the round flange (the top of the bottle rests against it) broke. See attached photo. The opener is useless now. I will be writing another review after contacting HICOUP Kitchens for a replacement under their lifetime warranty. I would recommend that they change the design/material of the donut's plastic part to molded nylon or delrin to hold the charge better than the flimsy plastic part that came with my original opener. This solves the short lifespan problem and saves them the cost/warranty hassles.

Pros
  • COMBINING FUNCTION AND STYLE, this durable wine bottle opener feels secure in the hand and looks elegant on the table. Professional sommeliers find this type of cork remover reliable and effective. Simply place the corkscrew on the bottle, twist the handle to insert the screw into the cork, and watch the wings of the opener rise. Then click on the wings to remove the cork. The coated screw slides smoothly through the cork and the stopper prevents the screw from breaking the cork.
