I know it's balancing, pun not meant to make the bass heavy enough to handle whatever's on the other end but not too heavy, where it should be bulky. I used a small and light Logitech c920 camera, but after extending it to where I needed it, the base wasn't heavy enough to support even this small camera. Obviously this doesn't work for a phone or DSLR. If you need something more vertical than lateral, this will likely work for you. But if you need something to shove the camera out of the way, I'd consider other options.
