I don't know what they are for. I have a 2017 Yamaha FZ07. The threaded part that goes into the rim is too short and therefore you cannot install the rear nut. I tried using a thinner rubber washer and was eventually able to thread the nut onto the threads, but then found that the aluminum was so thin that the nut came loose easily. A typical Chinese product.
