Review on Grohe 46 298 IE0 Ladylux Plus Handspray, Chrome Finish - Available for 33.737 and 33.759 by Evelin Barnett

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excellent - with some caveats.

I gave this product three stars, not because of the quality but simply to draw other customers' attention to some issues I encountered during installation. I hope I can save others the hours it took me to set this up properly. Regarding shipping and price, I bought directly through Revain with my main membership. I was very pleased with how quickly the part arrived. While I have a hard time swallowing the $82 price tag for a piece of plastic, at least I didn't have to pay nearly $150 list price. I have a Grohe Ladylux plus faucet (which swivels) that was installed just before I moved into this house in 1999. I don't think we ever have an instruction manual, but if there was one, it's long gone. A few years ago my (ex) husband had to disassemble a faucet to repair or replace a cartridge. I don't remember how good the water pressure was before, but the last few years the water pressure has been very weak. Anyway, when he was fixing the faucet a few years ago, there was a leak at the top of the syringe handle where the buttons are. Somehow he was able to use the putty and get the atomizer working again with no leaks. I forgot about that a few months ago when I decided to play around with the sprayer handle to improve my declining water pressure. (I'll spare you the details, but I followed the advice I found online.) In short, I made the situation much worse. About a week ago my water pressure dropped to almost zero. I really had to do something. After spending hours searching online for troubleshooting help, I finally found that the problem was with the water flow regulator in the quick connect. After I took care of this issue, a large amount of water was now pouring out of the top of the sprayer handle. Time for a new sprayer! (It seems you really can't get spare parts). I was very happy with this replacement and it looked great. However, the first problem arose when I opened the box and found two plastic capsules. Like flow regulators - one was white, the other yellow. I knew they were supposed to go in the atomizer handle but didn't know which one to use or if they both went in etc. The instructions were of little help. I spent an hour and 1/2 on the internet to find information about these parts, which should be installed with my unit etc. I couldn't find anything. So I finally decided to try them out. First I tried yellow. The handle is leaking where it connects to the hose. Then I tried to use a white one - both didn't fit. (This is the answer to this question). Finally, I took out the yellow one and put in the white one, which honestly looked the closest to a detail from my old pen. At first it didn't seem to flow like the yellow slider, but it did flow. (Oh, and a tip - each of these parts has an arrow engraved on it - from what I could read in the instructions, you should install the regulator in the grip with the arrow pointing up and away from the end of the hose.) Both both the yellow and white parts seemed to work, although I believe there was water in the handle behind the yellow valve when I unscrewed it from the hose. I still don't know what the difference between the two parts is, but I'll mention my experience in case you're in the same standoff as me and can't find information online about your specific faucet model. I mentioned it and I think it's just because this replacement is roomier than the old handle. However, this MUST be fixed immediately or water will flow down the hose and under the sink. I was able to find an O-ring at Ace Hardware that helped. The o-ring that worked for me is a #54 ring from Danco, Inc. Dimensions 11/16 x 9/16 x 1/6 (I'm sure Grohe products are metric, but the store seems don't stock metric o-rings and that seems to work fine for me) and stock no. 35768B. I think I paid about 50 cents for it, but it's also available online. Here is a link that was active at the time of writing this review. http://www.amazon.com/Danco-54-O-Ring-Bag-35768B/dp/B000UF0P46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337982310&sr=8-1 Now that it's installed I'm very happy with it my new sprayer (I'll be even happier when I fix the drain pipes). Hope that helps!
