All of this provided the basis for the finished product I needed. However, the Regalo could have simply been designed better. I needed a child gate that would prevent the child from climbing the stairs. Judging by the photos, my ladder sticks out into the room. There is also a door just at the bottom of the stairs. I knew from the size of my staircase that the base kit would not fit, but the reasons were poor design, not overall length. The gate panel should be the end, this would require two pieces of plastic. Another disadvantage is that some "hinges" cannot be bent more than 90 degrees at a certain angle. That's why the right side has such a "bulged" appearance. The hinge on the corner could not be bent far enough. For these reasons I decided to pre-drill holes and screw the gate to the floor and stairs to secure the gate. I don't want it to move and it also saved me from having to fix the drywall when we don't need this gate anymore (the floor will be replaced soon anyway). I had to cut one of the extension panels to length and then use the remainder on the left to make it work. I think it looks good. The metal bars are strong enough. It could simply be made more user-friendly without having to change the current design significantly.
