Review on Monroe 902998 Strut Mate Strut Mounting by David Butterfield

Revainrating 2 out of 5

In general very unhappy, I do not recommend.

I bought a total of 3 of these brackets for my 2002 Buick Lesabre. Only 1 of those 3 still works. Very bad odds and not worth buying in my opinion. The first failed mount had one of the two outer mounting screws broken in half in the first few weeks of use, resulting in a loud and annoying rattle from the mount. body with every shot. I bought another exactly the same mount to replace, assuming it was an accident, and gave them the benefit of the doubt. The second bracket had been on the car less than 1 year (maybe 10,000 miles on it) and the inner metal bushing had come loose from the rubber part of the bracket causing the shock to move up and down in the bracket and causing another one (though not the same) Loud knocking when driving over large bumps or potholes. This time I bought another brand to replace the second mistake. All is well and quiet again, but I will not buy these Monroe mounts again. In the spirit of full disclosure, I live on a dirt road and as such regularly drive 2 miles on a dirt road every day. Slave. Sometimes there are bumps and potholes on this road, sometimes it is pleasant and smooth. However, I have no other issues with other suspension components and find the failure rate of these mounts unacceptable.

Pros
  • High quality premium strut components
Cons
  • Not bad but...
