Works well without case. On a case, particularly one like mine, that doesn't have MagSafe on the back, you'll need magnetic rings like mine. Very strong magnet but requires direct metal contact or a MagSafe ring on the back of the phone to stay in place. The last thing you want to do is have PopSockets on that platter and the platter doesn't have a good grip on your phone. It would be great if the plate was maybe 30% thinner. It seems to stick out too high, but that may be because my case only has a 0.1 inch raised edge and the panel is a little thicker. I'm not sure if reducing the thickness will affect the durability and magnetic properties, but the manufacturer might look into it. For improvement.
