Review on Enhance Efficiency with Command Communications Comswitch 5500 3-Port Phone/Fax Modem Line Sharing Device by James Stjames

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Serves its purpose in networking products

Our telephone line has a distinctive ring service: a second number is connected to the line; When dialing this number, the phone rings, but with a characteristic "short-short" ringing, and not with a normal ringing. This device allows us to use this second number as a dedicated fax number. It recognizes the distinctive ring and routes the call to a fax machine (or in our case, a desktop computer that also receives faxes). If the phone rings normally, the call will not be diverted - we can answer it or our answering machine if we don't. We found the device very reliable after a month of use; Once set up you can forget about it, it just works. I do not know how. It connects to one of the three internal ports for that number; an answering machine and another phone are on the second line, but that's not a problem. It has one important limitation: the only distinctive ring it can receive is "short-short" - our phone company offered other options as well. If you selected a different option, you must change that selection to a short ring for this device to work. The device must also be programmed according to your settings. It is pre-configured for a facility that does not have a unique ring service. In this case, the device appears to recognize whether the incoming call is from a fax machine or a voice call and responds accordingly. I have no experience with this function. To set it up for my situation I had to call the support team as I couldn't use the instructions that came with it. But the support hotline worked well, the waiting time was very short and I found someone who could help me with small problems. In my opinion, more comfortable programming is all the device needs for a five-star rating.
