I'll start this review with two things.1. This is NOT an industrial machine. it's Heavy Duty, but Heavy Duty and Industrial are two completely different things that aren't interchangeable. Industrial machines usually only make one type of stitch - the straight stitch - and that's it. This is a domestic heavy-duty machine.2. I am a beginner. This is my first sewing machine and I have no experience with hand or machine sewing. The pictures you see in my review are of the drawstring pouch I made today from an online tutorial and the machine myself. Like I said, I love this car! very easy to use so not sure what the other reviewers are talking about, when they say the multithreading process is difficult. Just follow the instructions in the manual and you can easily fill up your car. There are two hooks on the top of the machine to thread the thread through and this is the trickiest part. Winding the bobbin is incredibly easy. Again - just follow the instructions in the manual. If you're having a hard time following written instructions, I recommend looking for videos that specifically show how to wind and thread with the Janome HD-1000. I love that this machine has an automatic needle threader. It is very easy to use and always gets the thread on the first try. I will say that this machine is a little tricky to pull the bobbin thread properly. Sometimes you have to turn the knob on the right side of the machine a couple of times before the bobbin thread appears under the presser foot, but then everything is smooth. This machine has been pre-oiled and is in excellent condition. I had no problem disassembling the spool mount myself, it's just two parts - the bit that the spool actually sits on and some sort of O-shaped bit that goes on top. Incredibly easy to care for. I've had the upper thread get stuck in the bobbin case a few times (complete user error) but once I figured out what I was doing wrong it wasn't a problem. This machine is truly a high performance machine. It easily sews through 3 layers of thick fleece and stretch denim, one over the other. I used a needle that came preinstalled on the machine. but I also bought a box of Schmetz 14-gauge universal needles to replace the factory needles. This machine REQUIRES high quality filament to function properly. I struggled with a poor quality (very old) thread that had been in my partner's sewing box for about 10 years and when I switched to Gutermann thread I had no more problems. The main problem I had was the upper thread getting caught in the spool holder and I suspect this is due to the quality of the thread. I haven't had any more problems since switching to Gutermann. Another tip: make sure you are using the correct needle for the project. If you're sewing faux leather or multiple layers of denim, be sure to use a thicker, stronger needle. Also make sure the voltage is set correctly for the type of project. As I said, this is my first experience with a sewing machine, so I did a lot of research on how to use the machine properly before buying it. I suspect that most other consumer complaints about this device stem from user error. In summary: - use good quality thread - choose the right needle for the fabric you are using - set the tension correctly - remember to keep the machine clean - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. I can highly recommend the Janome HD-1000. If you are new to sewing and want to do a little research, read the instructions properly, use quality sewing concepts and have a little patience, this will be a wonderful machine for you. I'm not watering down a machine, it just magically works right out of the box with no thought or manual reading of what I did.
