Review on 【Bone】 Bike Tie 3 by Troy Caldwell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Already added full miles per hour to my commute

I drive about 100 miles a week; a split between commuting and long commuting/training on mostly rugged country roads. Years ago I had a wired bike computer that eventually became obsolete and was never replaced because I wasn't a big fan of them. I've dabbled in wireless computing but found it was silly because I always carry my phone with me. One day I realized that the phone holder was for me; I chose one that was durable but also inexpensive. I finally came across the Bone Bike Tie X and decided to give it a try. I have a Huawei P20 (can you tell I'm a budget conscious buyer?) which is a medium to large sized phone with a case. to a bike tie and it fits very tight. It takes about 10 seconds to place the phone in the holder and adjust it so the straps don't cover the ambient light sensor on top or the fingerprint sensor on the bottom. Even with my phone mounted on my road bike handlebars, I have enough room to use all 3+ hand positions. The phone is CLOSED in the holder and I am 900% sure it will never fall out. The only minor annoyance is that the phone and mount will rotate around the handlebars during prolonged vibrations or big bumps. I usually have to set it up a couple of times during a two-hour drive, but it only takes a push on the top of the phone to flip it the other way. I've only been using it for a week so I'm not talking about durability but it appears to be holding up and I don't think it's going to fall apart any time soon. Having my fitness tracker throughout my journey provided enough feedback loop to increase my average speed by almost 10%. I don't think I realized how relaxed I was. The bike tie is great; I would recommend it to serious or casual riders.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Not as good as it says
