Review on Basement Watchdog BWC1 Switch Controller by Chris Cruz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The switch is the perfect solution if your installation is blocked.

The switch is the ideal solution if the installation is jammed or clogged. But here's the best part: the company. Long story but good story for gears. My pump is about five years old and pumps fine when the switch is on. I installed this new switch and it worked fine, but after an hour or two the GFCI turned on. This has never happened before. I restarted it and it worked again. I called Basement Watchdog tech support and they told me my pump was bad. It made no sense so I removed the new switch and switched the old one back on. The pump worked fine. So I emailed them and asked them to check with the engineers. I got a call back from a lead engineer saying the engineers said the switch couldn't turn off the GFI. I was inclined to agree. The guy suggested I change the GFCI. In the meantime he sent me a new switch free of charge. I said I couldn't ask for anything better. When I went to swap the outlet, I found that the electrician had swapped the hot and neutral wires! It's been like this since the house was built 20 years ago. I left the old GFCI and hooked it up properly and everything is working fine. But that leaves the chief electrician with a puzzle: how come one switch in series turns off the reverse-connected GFCI and the other doesn't? Anyway, hats off to Basement Watchdog support!
