I've had a Z1 for a few years and have tried many discs with it. Here are my experiences and tips on how to get the most out of your Z1. Overall I like this printer. It's been working pretty well for me since the day I got it. To date I have run 500 discs. The Z1 uses a monochrome thermal ink cartridge to write on the disc. Unlike inkjet technology, thermal printing does not dissolve in water, washes or washes off. Even strong nail scratches are not enough to damage the print. For me, this is a big advantage over an inkjet printer. The software only allows you to print within the four quadrants of the disc - top, bottom, left and right. Each quadrant is a rectangular area. Therefore, it is not possible to print the entire circumference of the disc. However, it is better than some similar printers that only allow you to print in two areas on the disc (top and bottom). Because the printer uses a ribbon cartridge and not an ink cartridge, full-color printing is not possible. You can get a color other than black, although I've never tried them. The printer is designed to work with traditional, non-inkjet media. I don't know what happens when you try inkjet media in it, since thermal printing only sticks to certain types of surfaces. Unfortunately, there's really no way to know if a printer will print efficiently to a specific type. Disc. Most online stores sell a variety of media that don't have labels on the top. When used correctly, the result is really impressive, at least that's what I think and my friends agree. Importing graphics and such is very easy, allowing you to collect images from DVD covers and online images to create pretty nice looking discs. Some people have complained about the quality of the grayscale graphics. In truth, the printer doesn't do well with high-contrast images or images with a lot of black. I find it best to lower the contrast of the image and increase the brightness by about 30% before attempting to print the image. Most of the time everything is fine. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes very well. Editing the image outside of the print program can be very helpful in the final output of the graphic. So yes, it is limited in some respects. But I dare you to find something better for the price, or even four times the price. Of course, if you want color and don't mind smearing, an inkjet printer is better. But for me, this little gadget is just what the doctor ordered.
