I love this product. It worked great and I've never done that before. I used to have to call a plumber to clean the drains for a lot of money. I did, albeit reluctantly. So here's what I did for those who are wondering if you can too. First, I unplugged the drain hole in the shower, then poured very hot water (an almost boiling kettle) down the drain to soften the soap that was holding the smelly clog together. I knew I was going to throw up and get sick if I saw or touch the clogs, so I put on thick gloves and grabbed a thick, dark plastic bag (I used one from the mall because it's nice and thick). I sealed the hole with a dark bag like lid and have been working underneath it by feel ever since. I inserted a plastic stick, had to wiggle it here and there to poke through the clog, push it in deep (no effort, just wiggle and push gently), twist it a few times, pull it all up. I had to pull pretty hard. The product has a large loop at the end so you can pull really hard. I had to squirm and pick it up again because the little spikes stuck to the clog could get caught under the metal bars of my drain. I wrapped the clog in a dark bag as soon as I took it out, wrapped everything up and threw it away. I know it's wasteful, but it's a small, flimsy plastic tool. If you're not that squeamish, you could probably rip off all the dirt. If you're squeamish, it might be better to buy a couple of these and while you're done to be able to pop in a second one to get more. I ended up using needle nose pliers to pry out more of what was sticking out. Phew, but now my shower is fresh, flowing, and clean with no signs of slow draining! I decided to reward myself by ordering takeout for the family and not having to cook dinner with some of my savings.
