I use this product to burn CDs I already own onto an external hard drive which is then played through a Sonos music system connected to a Linn Hi Fi system is connected. This is intended to improve access to my 2400 CD collection. Since the CD/DVD drive in my laptop was starting to refuse to burn some of my CDs, I decided to find an external CD drive as a replacement. This product was so cheap that it wasn't difficult to try. It has proven itself many times. I'd say the resulting sound is as good as my original drive, maybe a little better, and it's never refused to rip a CD! VERY SATISFIED.
