I want my money back! Disgusting product and poor quality.

Either the description didn’t indicate that it was built-in, or I didn’t read the description well - in short, I wanted to purchase an external drive, now I don’t know what to do with it - you don’t have a normal procedure for exchanging goods. . . Or I misread again. In general, this drive is lying around in my closet, it will get in the way very much - I will throw it away. I don't rate it, of course.

This is an incredibly slow drive

I tested this drive on the same computer with the same software against a cheaper drive (I won't name it to sound biased) and the cheaper drive recorded the same file at 16x in 2 minutes 37 seconds. This drive burned DVDs at the same 16x speed but ran a minute longer (3 minutes 38 seconds). That's almost THIRTY PERCENT slower than the cheaper off-brand product. This PC Part Picker Disc was recommended to me, but I'm glad I found a better product. They found this post helpful. Save yourself the…

Excellent device from Asus, I highly recommend it.

I don't seem to have much luck with these CD/DVD burners but I told a friend that I would try again to burn two music CDs for him. It was a disaster and I went online and ordered this recorder from Revain. It was there in a day and a half. I pulled out the old one and this plugged right into the same connectors. I installed the software. It was easy. The songs were still waiting to be recorded, so all I had to do was hit the record button. The recording lasted about 20 minutes, after which the…

Excellent drive for copying CDs faithfully

I have owned this drive for 3 years now and it has proven to be reliable. Some may say they are a thing of the past and while that may be true as long as CDs are made I will continue to use them. Because of this, I have a hard time trusting online stores that sell "lossless" versions as I prefer to copy them myself. I set it up and use it mainly with Exact Audio Copy 1.3 to rip lossless copies of my CDs to FLAC format. . This one (DRW-24B1ST i) has a read offset of +6 as reported by…

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Hard to say

Well, for $22 you won't find anything better than this optical drive. My last Asus DVD-RW died after 4 years of continuous use so I went ahead and ordered this (OEM) Asus DVD-RW Optical. He worked for 20 days and then he started playing. I called Revain and explained why the new Asus DVD-RW I bought was no longer working, fully expecting that I would have to return the $19.50 DVD-RW, which wasn't worth my time was to send them back. Reveal activated! When (Asus won't!) and they sent me a…

Generates its own sound effects

While it's certainly not the loudest DVD drive I've owned, it produces some of the most interesting sounds I've used in decades. When you insert a disc, or when the system boots up and initializes the disc, the drive sounds like the air brakes are being applied to an 18-wheel vehicle. It's not very loud, but if you're not expecting it, the sound effect is confusing. My rig has liquid CPU cooling and I imagined when I first heard the sound it was steam coming out. When the drive reads from a…

The disc seems fine but the packaging is terrible!

I think the drive itself is probably fine. Easy to install and pretty quiet, at least when reading from the hard drive. I connected this drive with an IDE to SATA adapter. I was never able to get the drive to burn the disc successfully. My computer either hung up halfway through the recording, or the recording completed but said it failed. I think it might have something to do with using an adapter. A direct SATA connection might be better, but there are no more available SATA connections on my

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Vulgarity

OK. This review is based on my experience with the second item I bought. The first such burner a few years ago was "fantastic". I've successfully (I'm not exaggerating) burned 2000 CDs/DVDs. The approximately 50 failures were mainly due to bad drives. When the burner started to deteriorate, I bought the same one again. After a few months it's so bad that it needs to be replaced. I have had at least 10 severe burns in the last 2 weeks which are the fault of the burner. Since the previous one was

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Low maintainability

If you're buying this to replace a dead CD, fine. If you're buying to replace a drive that can't read certain discs - in my case old CDs with some wear and tear - you can consider my experience: I bought this drive to replace LG's built-in "Super Multi" DVD rewriter : GH24Ns70. Cause: LG "Super Multi" did not read some old music CDs. However. The old HP DVD/CD drive reads most of those old music CDs, as does the old USB CD/DVD drive I plugged into the Windows 7 system I bought this replacement…
