The approximately 50 failures were mainly due to bad drives. So, when the burner started to deteriorate.

OK. This review is based on my experience with the second item I bought. The first such burner a few years ago was "fantastic". I've successfully (I'm not exaggerating) burned 2000 CDs/DVDs. The approximately 50 failures were mainly due to bad drives. When the burner started to deteriorate, I bought the same one again. After a few months it's so bad that it needs to be replaced. I have had at least 10 severe burns in the last 2 weeks which are the fault of the burner. Since the previous one was awesome, I can only assume that this is a lemon, so don't give that up as an option. However, it is VERY noisy and will take an hour or more to blow through if at all. The first burner wasn't noisy at all and burned at just the right time depending on whether it was a CD or DVD and what features were selected. I've had a DVDFAB that I've been happy with for burning DVDs since 2003, and they're updated monthly so I know it's not the program's fault. If you buy one of these burners, watch and listen carefully before your warranty expires. Mine broke after the warranty expired. If you buy one of these burners, please wait a few months before testing them until you have had good or bad results with them. Feedback from people praising something for getting it to them quickly and in good condition, or any nonsensical comments that say nothing about the quality of the product, are worthless to a 'thinking' person. What to look out for now, what to replace. Good Hunting.
