Should be for multiple screens.
Having multiple screens is a must these days; especially for work. I bought this because the dock I had at work only supported 1 HDMI and 1 VGA. I personally wanted two HDMI screens for better picture quality; for reading and following charts and graphs. I'm happy with it and glad I bought it. hope that helps.
