Review on 🚣 Sea Dog Line - 3004.4272 Sea Dog 420488-1 Kill Switch with Detachable Lanyard by Brian West

I installed this derailleur on my Yamaha 8 HT outboard and although it fits perfectly the derailleur functionality is poor. I have to press the red button very hard and repeatedly to turn off the engine. The switch worked fine for the first three or four uses the day I installed it, but after that first day the red "stop engine" button function became less and less reliable. Maybe I just got a bad copy of this product and most of them are good. The official Yamaha derailleur looks the same and is $65 so I had high hopes that this SeaDog derailleur would be an inexpensive aftermarket alternative but so far I am disappointed and concerned that this derailleur will soon fail. Pulling the cord does not stop the motor, so this unit is indeed defective. UPDATE JULY 2018: I replaced the broken switch with a new one of the same model at the start of the boating season this year and after 3 months (about 6 days of actual boat use) the new one is working perfectly. Maybe the first one was just a bad copy, and most of them are good. It's certainly a cheaper price point than the $65 OEM switch. UPDATE APRIL 2019. I've gone through three such switches now. The first worked for about 6 months, the other two only a few weeks each. The failure mode is that when the button is pressed or the laces are ripped off, the "motor off" function simply stops working. Serious quality control issue with this product and I will not be purchasing any other. I am changing my rating to 1 star.
