First of all, I'm by no means a knife sharpener. I'm a beginner etc. I've tried stones to sharpen my knife and I've been successful with it, but I've never been able to sharpen it. Maybe the stones weren't thin enough, maybe it was my skill. Keep the blade with them, not sure. I'm sure my knives have never been sharper since I've had them. My "never sharper" might not be yours lol. I wouldn't say it's razor sharp, but it's a lot sharper than what I could do with a stone. Anyway I think they are great for any skill level. The edge became very sharp in a very short time. First, I primed the cutting edge with one of the cheap carbide-ceramic V-blades to keep the cutting edge from becoming completely dull. The only downside is that they are a bit small. So if you have big hands you may find it difficult to hold them.
