Let's not make it too complicated to advertise this product. This is a splash guard replacement for the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. There are two reasons you would buy one: to replace an identical one that comes standard with certain brands of shredders if it becomes damaged in any way, or to convert the type of protection used by many other brands that Type often referred to as a shooting star. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION My new brand of waste disposal machines is Frigidaire, a name not often associated with waste disposal machines. This is not their core business and the device itself is actually made by Electrolux. This, like most grinders sold these days, has a rubber flap right in the drain hole, meaning dirt can get into the grinding area and water can flow freely whether the motor is running or not. Unfortunately, the fatal flaw with this model, for all its intricacies, is that the closure is what's known as a starburst, essentially a flat piece of rubber with a tiny hole inside and six slightly larger holes around it, with a slot in between. Most people don't like this design because even without dirt, water collects in it because it can't drain fast enough, and with dirt you have to mash the drain with a fork or spoon, but hopefully not your finger. SOLUTION This design, while not unique to the product I'm reviewing, happens a little differently. First, the hole in the middle is larger to allow the water to drain more naturally. Second, the rest of the part is hard rubber except for the central hole, but is very flexible and shaped to have five triangular ducts that allow the waste to drain immediately into the sewer with no back flow. YES OR NO Only six dollars. This fender requires no installation skills, it just snaps into place in about 10 seconds and fits as snug and secure as the original. Once you use it, you will never go back to the starburst theme. There are many companies that sell these guards but they may not be as flexible or better I can't try them all. I can say that this one works and I am very happy with it and think it deserves a full five stars.
