Before doing this review, let me say this product would be easy to install if the Lippert lock opening on the camper door is up to specification. My existing lock was showing as a "Replaceable" option under the "Will it fit" image posted by the seller on the new RV Lock product page, but ultimately based on the hole size as shown in the same image. I was halfway there hoping it would fit my new camper but I had to remove the existing lock to check the existing hole sizes. How lucky I was, the factory was a little shorter in height by about a sixteenth of an inch, and the width was a good eight inches narrow, and the thickness was a little under an inch and a half deep. Being a DIYer by nature and a risk taker, I figured I could get the job done by trimming the hole a bit on my side with my Dremel tool and one of their small diameter drum sanders. This tool worked better for removing the extra thin fiberglass wall they make doors out of. I decided to enlarge the hole to the minimum hole dimensions shown in the new lock and actually added some more width as I was concerned about the short rigidity of the stranded connector which was on the front of the working lock. because of its keyboard and I had to bend it to a vertical position to clear the back of the hole to allow the front locking mechanism to ensure a good fit in the hole without pinching the plug cord. A 90 degree plug would have been better for this location but it still worked well. I also had to slightly enlarge the hole in the metal edge of the door so the latch and deadbolt could open and close smoothly without worrying about a friction situation on the road. I will also point out that initially there were only 2 screws on the inside/back of the lock holding the front and back of the lock together during shipping and these will need to be removed to separate the two parts of the lock for shipping necessary installation and I thought oh no someone forgot 2 more screws that I need for the final assembly of the movement but fear not the other 2 are in the packages with the hardware kit that includes the new strikers and mounting screws contains. After struggling to fix the problems caused by the door manufacturer, I can't say enough good things about how well this keyless lock performed once it was fully installed. It was like Christmas again. Programming the keyboard was so smooth as I changed the manufacturer's default code "1234" to our personal code and being hard of hearing it was great to be able to turn the volume of the beeps up so I could hear the beeps to confirm that programming is fine. Another plus I think is that the fobs are already programmed and since my van doesn't have two doors to fight it doesn't matter which of the colored buttons on the fobs you use to lock and unlock, both white as well as orange buttons are used to open and close my only lock. And "part of the resistance" to this amazing lock is a free lifetime warranty, and all Carmtek asks in return is that you sign up within 7 days of receiving your product! The required warranty website is listed on the documents that you receive with your Carmtek lock. You will not be disappointed if you choose this RV lock to upgrade your RV. It's amazing how well it works!
