Review on Mopar MOPAR 5184294AE ADAPTER by Kevin Griffin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A simple solution to a poor Chrysler/Jeep design requiring a recall.

So I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you own a 2011 or 2012 Chrysler or Jeep, you know the horrible design of the Pentastar 3.6 liter oil filter. For no reason, when removing the oil filter cover, a spring and a plastic case fly out. Chrysler fixed the design asap in 2013, but folks with the 2011 and 2012 models are stuck. There are no reviews. My Jeep dealer wanted to charge me $675 for a $2 spring and case repair (mainly towing, buying and installing this part, and changing the oil). Rough! A very good mechanic told me I could buy this part from Revain, remove the spring and case and put the spring and case on my current jeep! It worked fantastic! 30 minutes. While the spring + housing are not available, buy this part for $175. Much cheaper than $675 (but not as cheap as it should be. $20). Of course, I have to issue the typical warnings. Only change it if your warranty has expired and be extremely careful when removing the spring and housing. You need to press 3 tabs and pull up slightly. Even after removing this part, do not throw it away. If they ever come out with a $20 spring and cover plate, you can put them on this part and get a brand new one - if your oil cooler ever fails. 4EDIT: Rejoice! Dorman is currently developing a replacement part for springs and nipples. Search for rViwIKhyoR4 on YouTube
