Review on Unleash Versatile Performance with Frankford Arsenal Universal Construction Functionality by Girish Underwood

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A very poorly assembled and crappy cutter, but salvageable.

The knife is blunt and made of cheap mild steel. It takes more than 20 seconds to cut a 223 case. Fortunately, it can be replaced with an RCBS carbide bur. Next, the roller bearings on the shaft come loose, which is why brass filings get into them. This makes the whole device rattle and feel like sand when cutting. Fortunately, this can be fixed. Remove circlip, pull out shaft. Remove the cutter (left blank). Remove roller bearing. Thoroughly clean the bearings and shaft, then lubricate liberally - use grease, not oil. Collect. Now it spins easily. I recommend using it upside down, like a drill press, to keep brass shavings from getting into the bearings. After cleaning, I consistently got +-0.0005 on cases, even with a dull blade. The shaft, even with lubrication, has too much play to feel the difference when cutting. The trick is to use your finger on the bottom of the case. The friction of the tailor twists the body in the finger. Hold to cut, release your finger to see if it's done. If the case doesn't rotate on your finger with very light pressure, it will cut through. A carbide cutter costs an additional $30.

Pros
  • DURABILITY: Heavy-duty hardened stainless steel blade stays sharp through thousands of cycles.
Cons
  • Some insects.
