I've had the BCT8 for a little over a month so I think enough time has passed to comment. This scanner replaced a Bearcat 220XLT scanner which I had for over 15 years but burned out due to a lightning strike. I'm at a loss so I didn't have to use the available trunking features as none of the agencies I hear use trunking so I recommend you check out the other reviews/comments if you want to learn more about trunking. "Plus: Very good sound quality from the built-in speaker. The built-in stand allows you to place it on a tabletop or tabletop and project sound from the speaker. The buttons are easy to use and the function of each is easy to understand. Cons: Serial cables are still used for programming. This is obsolete as almost everyone uses a USB cable today. The software for the FULL program costs $. An alternative is to manually enter into memory each frequency you wish to store in one of the memory channels. Tip: Write/type all the frequencies you want to program in a spreadsheet. By pressing the buttons on the scanner with one hand and the spreadsheet with the other, loading frequencies into the memory bank can take less time. Knowledge of scanners and reading the manual once or twice will also help. In general it is well built. I am considering installing a scanner in my car for use on the road. If I do that, it will be BCT8.
