Bought to add some warmth to a 13x13 room that is a few degrees cooler than the rest of the house. I was looking for a quiet unit that would not pose a burn hazard to pets and children. This pup fits the bill. It puts out the same BTUs as other 1500W portable heaters on the high setting, but the exterior surfaces, including the top and front grilles, remain cool. Credit unit size, air volume and surface area in relation to the heating elements for a cool touch. The fan runs quietly at low speed; otherwise a bit noisy. I got one star for the annoying behavior that initially makes the fan run at high speed for a few seconds when the thermostat kicks in. I also don't like temperature increments of 5 degrees, which makes it difficult to find the perfect temperature. I don't plan on using it as a fan, but I suspect it doesn't compare very well to other options. Overall I'm happy with the unit as a safe portable heater and will probably buy a few more for family members.
