I received this specifically to use with the OTG function for Android phones. I often take dashcam footage from a microSD card and use my phone to extract/download the file. It's also nice to be able to upload raw files from the DSLR's SD card if your camera doesn't already have built-in WiFi. Because this card reader also comes with a regular USB Type-A connector, I also use it when I'm sitting in front of a computer. The transfer speeds I saw were on par with the SD card I'm using (95MB/s read and 90MB/s write), so not a problem. Yes, this type is a bit fat, but I mostly use the Type-C connector with my phone. All in all, this is a good dual purpose compact SD card reader.
