The whole pattern will align, you just have to rotate it in a circle to make it align.

Installed us on a 1992 Sea Ray 200 with a 28 gallon fuel tank. Seems to be working fine. It's shorter than the bottom of the tank, maybe 1 inch. When I'm empty there's 8 gallons of fuel left in the tank. Which isn't bad, it's almost like a reserve. It's only been installed for about a month but appears to be well made.
