Best value for money but beware

Well I like this heater because it's durable and reliable and keeps the water temperature nice and warm even when the temperature drops at night. But above all it is accessible. I'm a broke college student trying to take care of my only quarantined cockfish pal, so price and reliability are paramount to me. At the same time, this is a good heater, but it has a few features: 1) The temperature scale is not accurate. This heater tends to run hotter than set, especially on smaller tanks. For example, I set it to 73 in my 6 gallon right now. This keeps it at 80 degrees all the time, all the time. Make sure you run tests to find out where the dial should actually be. I'm used to this because most heaters I've found aren't accurate in this regard. 2) I think the suction cups wear out over time. So far this isn't too much of a problem (have had these heaters for almost a year now). Quirks aside, for the price I have a feeling you can't beat it and I've been very happy with it so far. Just be careful and test your equipment before trusting it with live fish in an aquarium. The same applies to the optional thermometer. I don't really trust these digital ones, so I often test them with other immersion thermometers to double check. So far they have checked accurately for me. I mainly use these digital sensors when acclimating fish to verify that the tank/bag temperature is correct.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Incredible piggy bank
