I was surprised at how sharp they are but grateful when I got a long old splinter of wood right under my skin . They were able to grab the smaller end, but then the tree snapped. It has to come out or it will infect the finger. With a sharp point I was able to cut through the skin layer and easily take out the old wood. Painless because I did it right away, not infected yet. I would have had to search and then use a sharp needle to puncture the skin if I didn't have it. Easy to clean. no burrs, no mismatched ends. In the garden or on art projects (especially in the old granary forest) I am no longer without them. I also put a few in the first aid kit in the car and one in the first aid kit upstairs. and will most likely order more.
