So if you are installing a Ring 2 doorbell (or any other Ring product), want to install wired charging and (most importantly) the distance between your device and the place where the transformer is connected is greater than the length of cable already connected to that transformer. Continue reading. The transformer itself is what you would expect from a $15 Chinese transformer. The voltage varies, but this isn't a problem for charging the Ring device as 16V is right in the middle of the acceptable range. The problem with this particular transformer is the very low amperage. Voltage decreases with distance, check out a voltage drop calculator if you want to dig deeper. In my particular case, I knew exactly how much voltage drop my application needed, and yet the transformer failed miserably to its specifications. I was able to get enough voltage using just the length of wire connected to the transformer. However, when I attached the transformer to the extra lengths of wire and tested multiple wires of different sizes and spacing, the results weren't very good, not even remotely good. The transformer is not delivering the specified voltage (which is electrical current). I'm not sure if I have a bad transformer, of course it's possible, but be aware. For longer runs, I'd recommend looking at other options.
