I bought this scale to track the weight of small animals. When my measurements showed significant differences from my vet's calibrated scales, I decided to run some tests. I first weighed a known amount and got good results within half an ounce. Then I simulated a moving animal by tapping the weight lightly. The digital scale on the device has become unstable and unreadable. I turned on the "Hold" function and got a readable result. This result was significantly high and variable. Based on this test and my veterinary scale results, you can expect an error of 4-10 ounces. This is too big an error to be used in weight control of sick or diabetic animals. These scales don't seem to have any mechanical or electrical damping, which might explain the low price. Talk to your vet and see what they use. Mine uses a model that costs about $100 and I've watched it in action - the readings are much more stable.
