Until you open the box, you don't know that instant read means "25-40 seconds". I don't know about you, but I can't hold my cat in the ass with a thermometer for 25 seconds. I'd be better off buying an 8 second instant read thermometer from a tiny shop in town than this slow thermometer. It should be clearly stated in the description that this is a 25-40 second read and not an instant read, this is false advertising. I also thought it would be a great thermometer for my horses as it is easier to hold, but they like thermometers about as much as cats and I don't have to spend as much time on my horse's hindquarters when they are moody and sick.
