Revainrating 5 out of 5

No cable? Oh wait a minute.

I opened this thing up for the first time and was surprised by two things. First, this external CD drive is very light, or at least lighter than I expected. Second, there are no connectors and cables included on this thing. At least, that's what I thought. Upon closer inspection, the cable feeds into the bottom of the drive and is surprisingly well hidden. I'm a fan of this approach because I don't plan on plugging this drive into my computer for an extended period of time, so it will be stored for most of its life. I love that I never lose a cable and don't have an extra cable dangling or wrapping around the drive while it's in the electronics box. I really wish the cable was different in two ways. A little bit longer. Sometimes I find myself in my bed with my computer and need to plug in a drive. The short cable is annoying and limits my ability to slide the drive back during use. Second, my computer only has USB-C ports. While this is mostly an issue with my computer, I really want to see future devices with USB-C instead of traditional USB ports. Again, I know I get this with a Mac, but it would be nice to have an external drive without a dongle. I also know I bought this, so I shouldn't expect anything else. So it would be foolish to lower my rating because of that. Finally this drive works as advertised. I plug it in, plug in the drive and the drive appears on my desktop. That's all. There is no software to play around with or anything like that. The drive even ejects the disc automatically when I'm in itunes and press the eject icon. Outstanding functionality.
