knives - I have several hundred. I've been collecting them for decades, in all price ranges. I have about a dozen penknives that range in price from $6 to $150. There are visible differences between all these price points - a $6 knife doesn't look like a $45 knife or a $145 knife. Cosmetically they are similar, but upon closer inspection the difference is huge. Opening: a little tight - the spring is strong. The advantage is that it won't accidentally open in your pocket. Depending on your gripping style, you can use the rear latch/protrusion with your thumb or forefinger. The thumb stud is much more difficult to use with one hand (and why?) and uncomfortable with two hands. Not really necessary. Once open, it stays open. Cheap models don't. There is also no blade game. Blade: Good point, partially serrated and very sharp. 1/8" thick on the back. The manufacturer uses the finish of the blade to differentiate the steel. 8Cr13MoV is a high quality Chinese knife steel. Many big brands use it. . The blade is well thought out. Handle: Looks and feels like glass-reinforced nylon. It's strong but has good texture. There is a lanyard hole near the blade tip. The clip is exceptionally strong. 1.5" lanyard. The spine is open, making the knife lightweight is to clean and dry if it gets wet or dirty Quality: Looks and feels like a quality knife For example the blade tip is perfectly centered in the handle (many don't even come close) The blade has neither when sharpened still has flaws in workmanship. The steel in the breech and clip is heavy - at least twice the thickness of cheaper blades. On closer inspection I really can't find anything Large blade at a reasonable price gen price BTW I also have a sharpener As there is only one listing for both items here is my review of the sharpener: These types of sharpeners work by removing / shaving metal from the blade They do their job well , quickly and do not require any special skills. They are great for everyday knife use/carrying but I would never use them on an expensive blade or with a colored finish (black etc.) You can see the knife's shavings on the blade. In any case, you tie the sharpener vertically to a flat surface and guide the blade along the sharpening edges. This will give you a decent edge, but it won't be as sharp as a whetstone or ceramic sharpener, but they require more time and skill to use. You can sharpen a 3 inch blade in about a minute. This elegant tool also repairs minor blade damage as it removes metal as it sharpens. It is well made, light and compact, easy to use.
