The gate was placed outside at the top of the steps to my patio to keep the little dog from running around. Nice combination with deck railing. Perfect fit and I love the fact that there is no bottom rail to trip over and also that the gate swings both ways. You can also use a piece of plastic that limits the gate's rotation to one side. My only concern is that the plastic parts might not hold up. They open and close easily, but I'm afraid they won't last long over time. I'm trying to get replacement hinges but haven't managed to do it yet. Update: The seller does not provide plastic replacement parts even if you offer to pay for them. Says it's close. ATTENTION! The seller says that installing it outdoors, even under a covered patio, in an area with no snow or severe weather will void any warranty. We bought a gate to prevent dogs from jumping off the covered patio so I guess we'll be unlucky if the plastic hinges and latch don't work. For now, that's a great goal, and a two-way swing with no bar at the bottom works really well in this environment. There was no warning in the sales information that the gate could not be used outdoors without voiding the warranty, so we are downgrading our rating to 2 stars. If necessary, we can later customize the gate with a latch and metal hinges.
