The TDS of tap water in my area is about 300 ppm. I believe in municipal water treatment and have little doubt that my tap water is safe, but I just don't like it. Brita/Pur filtered water was fine until something changed (maybe my taste buds?) a few years ago when it no longer tasted good. I have a reverse osmosis filter at home (which I _love_) but wanted something for the office so decided to give it a try. To me it tastes as good as reverse osmosis water. The filter lasted longer than I expected given my high ppm levels - at least as long as the packaging says. I try to avoid bottled water (plastic bottles, fuel, emptying aquifers. Everything is bad), and I love the convenience and relative eco-friendliness of this simple alternative.
