The cable can make a working connection between laptops with Thunderbolt 3 ports and 4K external displays, but it is never recognized as a Thunderbolt 3 device. The display's bandwidth appeared to be limited to 4K at 30P with no HDR, although both the laptop and display support 4K at 60P with HDR. When the laptop or external display went to sleep, it was often necessary to unplug and plug the cable back in to allow the laptop and display to recognize each other again. In a live presentation or video conference, that would be a disaster. Regularly disconnecting and reconnecting cables also wears out the Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C ports. It's better to use a more cumbersome and expensive solution that actually works every time. This cable has been replaced with a true Thunderbolt 3 hub with two 4K 60P HDR HDMI video ports. Although this solution is more cumbersome, it is reliable and more functional.
